In Madhavapatnam, as in any cafeteria in America during lunchtime, what kids have to eat that day can vary wildly. However, unlike in America, there is no school provided and government funded lunch that can fill in the gaps- at least, until the Lunch Bunch program was started. A school run on student sponsorships is going to have more than a few students from very poor families, but staff began noticing that a number of the students weren’t able to bring anything to eat from home for lunch. And students who don’t eat enough aren’t able to focus on their studies, nor are their brains getting the nutrition they need to grow.
The Lunch Bunch program began in 2011, and provides a hot, nutritious meal for students who need help getting enough to eat. To sponsor a child’s lunch for $10 a month, click here.
