The Women

Cutting and Tailoring Center

In September of 2005, Novahu, the Director of Joyful Journey operations in Madhavapatnam, met a widow who had three daughters. Since women do not have similar working privileges as men, the oldest daughter was forced into prostitution to raise money to feed the family. Novahu was so moved by their situation that he decided to open a Cutting and Tailoring Center where women could take a six-month class to learn the sewing trade. While learning the tailoring trade, these women are in an environment that enables them to meet other women who share similar stories; therefore in addition to the skills they master, they build friendships which offer encouragement and support.

Thanks to donated funds, sewing and embroidery machines continue to be purchased to be used for the training classes. The main Center, Landowgals Fashion Technology, is located in Madhavapatnam and offers a variety of classes in addition to basic sewing skills. Novahu named the first Center after the four Landowski sisters who were instrumental in getting this ministry started. There are numerous other Joyful Journey Cutting and Tailoring Centers in outlying villages; they often share space with the local House Churches. More than five hundred women have completed the training classes and are putting their skills to good use!
